RQM: A new rate-based active queue management algorithm

چکیده
In this paper, we propose a new active queue management algorithm RQM based on rates of traffic passing through a router instead of the buffer occupancy inside a router. Our algorithm differs from existing work in that it uses a novel way of estimating the number of active sessions without explicitly maintaining or using per-session states at the routers. We prove that our algorithm results in fair allocations of bandwidth to competing sessions, under some simplifying assumptions. Using simulations, we show that our algorithm is superior to the well-known RED and REM algorithms in many scenarios. Our algorithm performs particularly well when the number of active sessions is very high.

An Improvement over Random Early Detection Algorithm: A Self-Tuning Approach
Random Early Detection (RED) is one of the most commonly used Active Queue Management (AQM) algorithms that is recommended by IETF for deployment in the network. Although RED provides low average queuing delay and high throughput at the same time, but effectiveness of RED is highly sensitive to the RED parameters setting. As network condition varies largely, setting RED's parameters with fixed ...

We present a novel active queue management (AQM) technique to demonstrate the efficacy of practically harnessing the predictive utility of SSR indications for improved video communication. We consider a network within which corrupted packets are relayed over multiple hops, but a certain percentage of packets needs to be dropped at an intermediate node due to congestion. We propose an AQM techni...
متن کاملA stable rate-based algorithm for active queue management
This paper proposes a rate-based active queue management algorithm or RAQM. It uses the aggregated traffic input rate to calculate packet drop probability according to an exponential rule. The proposed RAQM algorithm works in two modes: queue-independent and queuedependent. In the queue-independent mode, it only relies on the aggregate traffic input rate to regulate the input rate to the expect...
